The Southern-Fried Preacher

101+ Nuggets

Divine Blurbs of Wit, Wisdom and Wonder

Every morning hundreds of people read in their email and on Facebook, The Daily Nugget – a divine blurb of wit, wisdom and wonder – written by Harold Bales, The Southern-Fried Preacher. Now, more than 800 Daily Nuggets have flown out over the internet.

This book is an encore of some of our most favorite Nuggets. For the readers, these blessed blurbs have become priceless treasures to be savored over and over.

We hope you enjoy this collection of sentimentality, good-natured crankiness, naughtiness, inspiration, provocativeness, silliness and conviviality.  It’s all between friends, of course.  And if you don’t like this little book, you can always give it as a gift to some who sometimes gets under your skin!

Written in a friendly, chatty, down-home style, this book is unashamedly sentimental, surprisingly earthy and spiritually challenging. It will make you laugh out loud on one page; turn the page and it will touch your heart and bring a tear to your eye.

Readers don’t need to be Christian or Southern to fully enjoy
The Southern-Fried Preacher. “Besides,” Harold points out, “everyone lives south of somewhere. It’s a matter of the heart.”

Many of the stories in the book are selections from Harold’s weekly newspaper column of 20 years; others are about some
of the author’s favorite people he has met on his forty-five year journey as a beloved pastor and community leader.

The Weekly Column

Now in semi-retirement, writing for publication occupies most of Harold’s time. Throughout his career, he has written and edited more than 20 books and managed several publications. For twenty years he has pursued a public ministry beyond the walls of the church by writing a weekly newspaper column, “The Southern-Fried Preacher.”

His column is currently available in the Lake Norman Citizen, delivered weekly to more than 25,000 homes and businesses in Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville and Mooresville, North Carolina. You can read the column online each week at the paper's website.

"Harold Bales is like the
Paula Deen of the pulpit.
His prose is battered and deep fried, then smothered in rich, folksy humor. Reading him is like comfort f
ood for the soul."
